What “near” means here

Every named trail is filed under the town it sits closest to, up to about 25 miles out, and each town page lists its trails by distance with their length, activity and a link to the trail on the map. A town needs five named trails to get a page, so a suburb ringed by bigger neighbours may not have one — its trails are on the neighbouring town’s page and on the county page.

A straight-line radius is a rough answer, because a trail ten miles away across a river can be an hour’s drive. In the app, Discover answers “trails within 30 minutes’ drive” by mapping the area you can actually reach by road — by car, bike or on foot — and ranking the trails inside it.

Whichever way you find it, download the area before you go. Offline maps are free, have no size cap and never expire.
