Why a ski map has to work offline
Cold drains batteries, busy base areas saturate the towers, and the back side of the mountain often has no coverage at all. A downloaded map avoids all three: nothing is being fetched, so it draws instantly and spends less battery doing it.
Alpine and Nordic are separate activities in the app. Alpine switches on pistes, lifts and resort boundaries. Nordic keeps the ski trails and adds trailheads and tracks, because a cross-country day starts at a trailhead far more often than at a resort.
The boundary layer shows where the resort ends. Beyond it you are in unpatrolled terrain: Pro’s slope and aspect shading help you read that terrain on the web map, but they are planning tools — they are not an avalanche forecast and do not replace one.

Questions about ski maps
- Does it show which lifts and runs are open today?
- No. The map shows the runs, lifts and boundaries that exist. Daily status comes from the resort.
- Can I use it for backcountry touring?
- As a map, yes — topo, public land, offline packs and recording all apply. Slope and aspect shading are planning aids on the web map. Get the avalanche forecast from your regional avalanche centre.
- Is nordic skiing covered?
- Yes. Nordic is its own activity in the picker and shows groomed ski trails along with trailheads and tracks.
