Offline camping maps for campgrounds and public land
Campgrounds, BLM recreation sites and the public land around them, plus the two things worth knowing before dark: where the fires are and where your phone works.
Why a camping map has to work offline
Plans change at the campground gate. The site is full, the road is washed out, or the smoke has moved in — and the decision about where to go instead gets made somewhere with no signal. With the state downloaded, the next campground, the forest boundary and the road to both are already on the phone.
Public-land layers show whose ground you are on: national forest, BLM, state or local. Whether dispersed camping is allowed on a given piece is the managing agency’s call and varies by district, so use the boundary to work out who to ask.
Active fires are free because they are a safety layer. They are live data and need signal to refresh, so look before you lose it.

Questions about camping maps
- Can I reserve a campsite in the app?
- No. The map shows where campgrounds are. Reservations go through the operator — Recreation.gov for most federal sites.
- Does it show dispersed camping?
- It shows the public land where dispersed camping may be allowed, not individual sites. Rules vary by forest and BLM district.
- How do I know if I’ll have signal at camp?
- Turn on the cell-coverage layer and pick your carrier. It is free, and it is the quickest way to choose between two otherwise equal sites.
