How the offline maps work

Packs are vector data, not screenshots of a map. That is why a whole state fits on a phone, why it stays sharp at every zoom, and why switching activity offline still works: the trails, land boundaries and terrain are all there, and the app only changes which of them it draws.

Downloads are free, uncapped and permanent. Pro adds the data that costs money to build and keep current — property parcels and analytical terrain — and nothing you need in an emergency. How offline trail maps work goes into the detail.
