Recording, GPS & battery
Recording a track
- Tap Track in the bottom bar, then Start.
- Pick the activity you are recording. Recording begins as soon as you choose.
- While recording, a small panel shows distance and time. Swipe it up for the full stats and the Pause and Stop buttons.
- Tap Stop when you are done, then Save (or Discard).
- Choose who can see it: Private, Friends, or selected friends.
The full view shows time, distance, elevation gain and loss, pace, current, average and top speed, and a live elevation profile. Heart rate, steps and calories fill in when Health sync is on.
A saved track is named with the date. If you stop with no GPS points captured, there is nothing to save and the app says so.
Note: Recording is free and is only in the phone app — the web map has no Track button. You must be signed in to save.
Recording with the screen off or with no signal
To keep recording with the screen off or the phone in your pocket, Trailmonger needs location permission set to Always. If recording will not start, open your phone’s Settings, find Trailmonger, and set Location to Always.
On Android a notification — Trailmonger is recording — stays up for as long as the recording runs. On iPhone you will see the system’s location indicator.
Recording itself needs no connection; it uses the phone’s GPS. Saving does. If you stop with no signal, the app keeps the activity on the device and offers Retry or Later — it is not lost.
